• The Learning City - papers from the 2008 ICDE SCOP meeting and Global Forum

The first four articles in this issue come from the 2008 Standing Conference of Presidents (SCOP) meeting. The subsequent 13 papers are taken from the ICDE Global Forum on Open and Distance Education. Both meetings were held in Shanghai in October 2008, with the theme: “The Building of the Learning City: New Challenges, New Opportunities and New Strategies Facing Open and Distance Education”.

• Final report from the ICDE Task Force on Open Educational Resources

ICDE and UNESCO agreed to establish a Task Force in 2006 to study the issue of Open Educational Resources from the perspective of the open and distance education sector. This issue features the Task Force’s final report.

• Portfolio assessment in open and distance learning

Open Praxis is pleased to receive regular contributions from ICDE members. In this issue, I Jhengut from Mauritius College of the Air has written about their use of a portfolio as an assessment tool in a distance learning course developed for the Mauritian Civil Service.
